THE WRONG JOCKEY ON THE WRONG HORSE AT THE WRONG TIME CAN BE A DISASTER
By Astrologer, Carole Hemingway
November 2010…was not Calvin Borel’s best month! The day before his 44th birthday (born November 7, 1966) there was a New Moon on November 6th in 13-degrees Scorpio conjunct his Sun-Venus both in 14-degrees Scorpio and sextile his Mars 15-degrees Virgo. On top of that, transit Jupiter in Pisces was conjunct his Saturn 23-degrees Pisces Retrograde and square his Uranus in 23-degrees of the health sign of Virgo. All of this set the stage for violent arguments and potential life-threatening accidents.
November 5th after the first race of the first day of the Breeder’s Cup at Churchill Downs, jockeys Calvin Borel and Javier Castellano (born October 13, 1977) got into a huge fight and had to be restrained, though the media cameras got some pretty good shots of them both going at it.
Castellano was disqualified for coming off the rail and cutting into the path of other horses on the final turns. Another jockey flew out of his saddle and
barely regained his balance. Borel was furious, confronted Castellano face to face, a stubble whisker between them and three to four heavy set security guards had to physically separate both jockeys.
Considering that Borel is 5’ 5” and weighs 110-lbs., I say, “Never underestimate the power of a Scorpio.” Transit Sun that day was 12-degrees Scorpio conjunct Castellano’s unpredictable, accident-prone planet Uranus in 11-degrees Scorpio. The Scorpio New Moon of November 6th was planted right on Castellano’s natal Uranus...upset was going to occur in a public place.
It could have been worse. Castellano and Borel were fined between $2,500. and $5,000. for their scuffle and additionally Castellano was given a six day suspension for careless riding during the November 5th race. If you were watching this race, you know the fight complete with video made national headlines.
The near deadly fall for Calvin Borel came in a race on November 20th at Delta Downs in Louisiana when he was thrown from his horse, Aces N Kings; a trailing horse then kicked Borel while he was down. Borel suffered a four-inch gash in his chin which demanded surgery on his broken jaw. His injuries took about six weeks to heal. This is a man who became the first jockey to win Three Derby’s in four years. I personally have respect for this feisty jockey. He was born to race horses and as you may or may not know he was Rachel Alexandra’s regular rider before her retirement (to make babies) early September 2010.
Getting back to Borel’s November 20th, 2010 spill…the horse that threw him, Ace N Kings was born on February 21, 2008 in Texas, sired by a teaser
Stallion by the name of Jet Phone. Observing the ‘spill date’ I see that transit Mercury and Mars were in 16-degrees Sagittarius both in square to
Ace N Kings unpredictable, accident-prone Uranus 17-degrees Pisces and both those transiting planets were in square to Borel’s Mars 15-degrees Virgo (the health sign).
Any Mars-Uranus combination can have deadly results and we nearly lost an incredible jockey in the process. Doesn’t it make sense that astrology can address the compatibility of horse and rider, along with the date of their race so that in the future we could prevent potential deadly accidents in the future? Believe me; it’s worth the chart work to save a life of a jockey and a horse. Bad luck had nothing to do with it…it’s all in the astrological timing.
By the way, Borel whose jaw is now riveted and bolted together won his ‘back in the saddle comback’ race, the first race of the season at Oaklawn’s opener on Saturday, January 15, 2011 riding Jersey Shore Girl.
You gotta love ‘Calvin Borel’…he has nerves of Titanium!
