Welcome to the Indiana Edition of Almanac USA. For this edition your Astrometeorologiest is Wally Hollander.

Snow for Christmas?

I would imagine as we get closer to Christmas some might wonder if we might see any snow. Simple answer to that looks favorable, and the Londonky Almanac Indiana edition said Low pressure system rules from the 16-20 with rain by 4-6pm Friday through to 2AM for US-50 with rain/sleet/snow mix. Rain first (Friday late) then snow, and again on Sunday the 20. So expect rain first before change over late Friday night that has good potential to change over to mostly all snow just after 1AM Saturday morning. The whole idea is a low develops over Missouri, and moves to the SE just south of the Ohio river. Warm moist air will over run the colder air N of US-50. Another upper level disturbance will move South out of Iowa where already 5-6" of snow fell on the 19. That snow should make it to SWIN by late afternoon, or early evening this Sunday. Calculating possible snowfall amounts from the latest data sets from 7pm Wednesday I came up with 3.76" of Snow for N Daviess , Greene County line north of US-50.  Another look with the regular weekend forecast will be issued on Thursday.  It will turn somewhat colder on Sunday should catch most of the state with some measurable snow amounts.  There is a system in the Gulf that also will bring possible 8-11" snows around the Lynchburg,VA areas and lesser amounts to eastern, Ky over the weekend as low races up to the NE.

FROM THE BIBLE

“And God said, Let there be light in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years" (Genesis 1:14).

“To everything there is a season... a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted ...(Eccl. 3: 1-2).
